The West Coast Smoke Exposure Task Force aims to develop and disseminate information relevant to industry groups, growers, and winemakers operating in California, Oregon, and Washington. The goal is to foster dialogue between the industry and researchers, speaking with a unified voice to advance research in this crucial area. By facilitating collaboration, establishing priorities, and setting goals, the task force encourages the sharing of information among industry groups serving the West Coast wine and grape industries.
Currently, the Task Force is recruiting individuals to serve on the Research Committee. By being a member of the Research Committee, you will play a vital role in providing feedback on industry priorities related to smoke exposure. Your participation will significantly contribute to collective efforts and benefit the entire West Coast wine community.
The Research Committee, chaired by Alisa Jacobson of Turning Tides Wines, focuses on the following key areas:
- Reviewing and providing stakeholder feedback on smoke research objectives and priorities.
- Offering input on smoke resource materials for website publication, such as Protocols for micro-ferments in buckets, nano-ferments in mason jars, and smoke best management practices.
- Holding a virtual meeting in mid-April with another communication prior to harvest to be sure all documents are up to date for harvest protocol purposes.
