Introducing Dr. Heather Muser, Ed.D – Strengthening the Future of Sustainable WA

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Heather Muser as Lead Auditor for Sustainable WA. With 20+ years in agriculture and experience in sustainability and auditing, Heather brings deep industry knowledge and a practical approach to support growers. She is already working with growers for the 2025 audit season.

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Heather Muser as the new Lead Auditor for the Sustainable WA program. With over two decades of experience in agriculture—including her early work managing QA/QC at The Wine Group in Ripon, CA—Heather brings deep industry knowledge, a passion for sustainability, and a collaborative spirit that aligns perfectly with the mission of Sustainable WA.

Heather is not new to the world of sustainability or agricultural auditing. As a seasoned consultant, educator, and auditor, she’s built her career on more than just technical expertise—she’s known for building trust, providing clear guidance, and offering lasting value to growers and industry partners. Her thoughtful, practical approach supports the very foundation of Sustainable WA: continuous improvement, integrity, and the recognition that true sustainability is achieved through relationships, not just checklists.

A fifth-generation farmer from Clarksburg, CA, Heather understands firsthand the challenges growers face and the legacy they’re working to protect. Her personal connection to agriculture drives her belief that every acre has the potential to thrive through thoughtful stewardship—and that sustainability is a shared responsibility across the industry.

Heather’s addition to the team strengthens the program’s ability to offer meaningful support to certified growers while ensuring the credibility and consistency of the audit process. As the program grows, it’s essential to have people like Heather guiding the certification process—people who understand the complexities of farm operations, the realities of market demands, and the importance of balancing rigor with practicality.

Heather is already hard at work supporting the 2025 audit season.  Look for her in a vineyard near you
